Friends of the Performing Arts

Supporting the performing arts at Dover-Sherborn High School

Programs We Support

The Friends of the Performing Arts is an organization of parents and community volunteers that promotes and supports the following music and theater programs at Dover-Sherborn High School:

Concert Band

This large ensemble studies, rehearses and performs a wide variety of musical styles. The band performs in at least three annual evening concerts and has also participated in music festivals on a biennial basis.

Dramatic Production

Smaller scale extra-curricular dramatic production staged in the fall focusing on dramatic technique, contemporary classical or comedic subject matter. Auditions are held in June of the previous school year.

Jazz Band

This ensemble studies, rehearses and performs jazz in a wide variety of styles. Musical emphasis is placed on the work of great jazz masters. In most years, the band's instrumentation is that of a jazz combo: a rhythm section (consisting of piano, bass, guitar and drums) and a front line (consisting of various combinations of brass and woodwind instruments).

Vocal Ensemble/Chorus

A performing ensemble rehearsing daily to produce a rich musical experience for students who wish to sing. Vocal pieces, chosen to fit the ensemble, may include classical, early music, and/or contemporary pieces, popular music, and show tunes.

Musical Theater

Extra-curricular mainstage musical performed in the spring featuring a large cast, crew and pit orchestra. Auditions are held in December.

DS Al Coda

A student-run a cappella group under the advisory of Physics teacher Josh Bridger, that performs at school concerts and events, graduation ceremonies and competitions. Auditions are held in the beginning of each year.
